Today, five years ago, my son Garret was born in my bed, upstairs! And I wanted to just sit down for a minute and think on all the blessings of Garret's arrival in my arms those years ago...
Honestly, sometimes it is hard to conjure up memories of the birth of my children because they were all so close together and I have a terrible memory. But for my son Garret, since he was my first child ever, the child to first open my womb, he is holy unto the Lord. (Exodus 13:2; Luke 2:23)
When I think about my son Garret, I feel so blessed because God opened my womb.
There were three years of imaging a life childless before we had Garret. The year before Garret was conceived, we had started this family tradition of having a Shabbat Meal with my Brother and Sister-in-law and their children. We enjoyed cooking a Friday evening meal together (fun!) and sharing in the deliciousness! But the most memorable part for me of our Shabbat Meals were the Scripture reading and blessing over our husbands and children. And one of the Chapters I loved to read aloud to Danny was from Psalm 128:
Blessed is every one who fears the Lord,
Who walks in His ways.
Who walks in His ways.
When you eat the labor of your hands,
You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.
Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
In the very heart of your house,
Your children like olive plants
All around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears the Lord.
You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.
Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
In the very heart of your house,
Your children like olive plants
All around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears the Lord.
The Lord bless you out of Zion,
And may you see the good of Jerusalem
All the days of your life.
And may you see the good of Jerusalem
All the days of your life.
Yes, may you see your children’s children.
Peace be upon Israel!
and I promise, I did not come up with these verses! I printing an article online that I had read about Shabbat Meals and some Bible Chapters came along with the article and so we'd read the suggested Chapters aloud, to our spouses every Friday evening. There was also another Chapter in Psalm that, every time I read those two Chapters from Psalms, I would get this feeling in my bones, that the words would come to pass! I believed it in my heart, even though I couldn't see any results.
Now, 5 years later, I have the Scipture blessing fulfilled in my Garret.

I call him my 'Tikkis' and he still likes it! He is full of life and very energetic. The awesome thing is, is that he is very respectful and obeys very well. If I need anything, he will do it for me in an instant.
(Unless he is super tired or super hungry! - then I might get a 'why?!' or 'but?!...')
Garret loves to ask questions and he loves to learn about why things are. He questions everything and watches everything I do. The other day I began cleaning up his room and his sisters rooms and he said, 'why are you cleaning the rooms?? no one's coming over!' and I laughed and told him we had to always try and keep things tidy! He is super sensitive when it comes to injuries to himself! Like earlier this week he got out of his seat belt in our drive way when I was parking backwards, I didn't notice until I look back and he comes flying to the front and slammed his head on the middle console! Poor baby! Bruises and bumps seem to always happen to Garret before a big day like a birthday party or trip to visit Tata and Nana.
Garret loves to try and discipline his sister Melody. Sometimes, Melody likes to ignore a request I make of her, or she never likes to eat read food, lol. I always have to remind him not to worry, that the job is mine and Daddy's.
He loves his baby sister Phoebe. He and she will run around chasing each other, laughing and hugging. I've never seen him and Phoebe mad at each other for more than 1 minute. They love each other to pieces. I can't believe the instant attachment when I was pregnant with Phoebe, she would kick me when she heard Garret's voice. Now, it's the same. She adores him.
Garret says he wants to be a firefighter someday. Before he said that, he would say he wanted to work at McDonalds(!) but his Daddy soon changed his mind about that. :D He loves to watch Avengers and all the Disney movies including the Classics. Garret tells me he wants to play baseball someday. He also likes to talk about playing basketball and football in school too. He is not shy around other children. He loves to introduce himself to other toddlers by name and age. And usually when he does, the other toddler is speechless. It's hilarious. Garret loves to do puzzles and he's been super good at them since he was very very young. I'm teaching him to read and he's getting better every day. In addition to ABCMouse.com and worksheets for math and writing I buy for him at Dollar Tree, I think he is improving. It's hard to get him motivated everyday to do his homework for reading and math, but he really loves Science. He loves to learn about the body and about insects. Dinosaurs and the universe. Garret loves Angry Birds. His Daddy had this idea to shoot an Angry Birds YouTube video of a clay Angry Bird. You can see Garret here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kf6-EiK8yg
I see so much potential and greatness for my son Garret. And I know his Daddy feels the same way.
I know that Garret's Daddy loves him so much, it astounds me!! It's awesome.

Someday, whatever Garret does, I know it will be for the glory of God!
He is on loan to me to take care of, to love, to teach and to guide to the Lord. I fiercely love him, but in my heart of hearts I know that he is not mines, he is Abba's.

Abba, I am trying so hard to take care of my son, Garret. He is yours Abba. His life is yours. Please continue to guide and direct Garret's steps. He is so young. He is starting school this year! He will not be in my house 24/7, I will not be seeing everything he will be doing, I will not be side by side with him. But I know YOU will Abba. You are the best parent ever. And I know you will bless Garret in school and in work and in whatever he puts his hands to! Please give me the wisdom to raise my son in the fear of the Lord. To memorize your Word in his heart so that he may overcome the Evil One. I hope that I can be pleasing to You Abba in my caring of Garret. He is a blessing Abba. I thank you so much...
In Your Son's Name,
Love,
Jacqueline
